Assessment is a process in which you gather evidence to show an assessor that you are competent. Assessors or Subject Matter Experts (SME) can help you work out the kind of evidence to gather.
Competence is a mix of knowledge, technical skills, understanding, problem solving and attitudes that you need to be successful at work. Employers have worked with all Australian governments to decide the competencies required in their industry. Your competence will be measured by an assessor in a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). The Subject Matter Expert will assess you against relevant units of competency.
A Credit Transfer is the granting of status or credit by an institution or training organisation to clients for a competency or subject already completed at the same or another institution or training organisation.
National Recognition or Mutual Recognition is the granting of status or credit by an institution or Registered Training Organisation where clients have completed another identical nationally accredited course within the Australian Qualifications Framework.
Nationally Recognised Qualification
Nationally Recognised Qualification is a formal certification that is recognised nationally and awarded under the Australian Qualifications Framework for the achievement of competencies.
Recognition (also known as RPL or RCC) is the acknowledgement of a person’s skills and knowledge acquired through previous work, life or study which may be used to grant status or credit in a competency subject.
Registered Training Organisation (RTO)
A Registered Training Organisation (RTO) is a training provider that can be a private training company, large organisation, industry or professional association, School, TAFE or adult community education college, which must meet nationally recognised standards of quality and deliver nationally recognised training and qualifications.
Skill Set is a clearly defined statement of the skills and knowledge required by an individual to meet industry needs or a licensing or regulatory requirement. Learn more about Skill Sets on our Vocational Education and Training page.
Statement of Attainment
Statement of Attainment is the statement issued within the Australian Qualifications Framework for either a formal record of achievement for the successful completion of part of an Australian Qualifications Framework qualification or a formal record for the successful completion of an accredited course where the course does not meet the requirements of a full Australian Qualifications Framework qualification.
Unit of Competency (UOC)
A Unit of Competency (UOC) is the specification and application of knowledge and skill to the standard of performance expected in the workplace. A unit of competency is the smallest unit that can be assessed and recognised.
